BOYDEN, Iowa | More than 1,000 hogs died in a fire that completely destroyed a rural Northwest Iowa confinement building.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reported the fire occurred Saturday at 3085 Jay Ave., three miles northwest of Boyden. No people were injured.

In addition to the sheriff’s office, six fire departments worked at the fire scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Sioux County Emergency Management recommends that no outdoor fires be started during the current dry period.
